Political Career
Edwards entered politics in 1998 when he was elected to the US Senate, representing North Carolina. In 2004, he was the vice presidential running mate of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. Edwards ran for president in 2008 but withdrew from the race after failing to gain sufficient support.
